Everyone in the colony has a part to perform…But the Queen insures the colonies success.  Without queens colonies would cease to exist.  I am talking about living breathing queens not imaginary ones.  Some colonies kill to defend a queen that really does not exist. The angels are coming to destroy that colony.

How much work do ants do?

Well, assuming a worker ant spends half his work day carrying 100 mg (25x their weight) at a speed of 1 inch per second, this calculates to 0.85 joules. Not much, but if we scale this to human proportions, this translates to 13.1 megajoules. This is the equivalent of carrying a 50 lb rock a distance of 36.6 miles!
